Life’s Good in Chamonix’s Off Piste Paradise

Your author: Powder Monkey January 30th, 2009 - Posted by: Powder Monkey

Although the massive pre-season snowfalls and sub-zero temperatures had ensured that the pistes were still in great great shape prior to the latest dump, there had been no significant fresh since New Year’s Eve.  Until 18th January, that is, when the skies opened up and it snowed for 3 days straight.  Wednesday 21st was the first blue sky day following the dump and we were fortunate and motivated enough to get first tracks down the backside of Le Tour at the Swiss end of the Chamonix Valley.  Check out our lines in 50cm of fluffy white stuff.

Tignes Hosts Massive Slope Side Party on New Year

Your author: Powder Monkey January 16th, 2009 - Posted by: Powder Monkey

New Year was celebrated in style in Tignes, where tens of thousands of revellers saw in 2009 at a massive party on the piste. The 20,000 strong crowd enjoyed a free open air concert, headlined by world renowned DJ David Guetta, on a makeshift 5000m² dance floor in Tignes Le Lac. Those who braved the sub-zero temperatures and steady snowfall until midnight were also treated to a spectacular fifteen minute firework display. As the below video shows, spirits were exceptionally high despite the weather, proving that Tignes is THE alpine venue at New Year.

Those who made it up the mountain the following day must have been patting them selves on the back for their self restraint the night before and those that didn’t regretting their excesses as New Year’s day dawned with blue skies and fresh tracks.

Your author: Powder Monkey January 8th, 2009 - Posted by: Powder Monkey

Avion News recently reported details of the ongoing investment in Chambéry airport. According to the article over 5,7 million Euros have been invested in improvements to the Alpine airport.

A portion of the seven figure investment has already been spent on the renovation of old, and the creation of new, aircraft parking stands. The remaining funds have been allocated to the construction of a brand new bus terminal.

Chambéry airport is a popular choice with British skiers because of its proximity to high altitude resorts such as Val d’Isere, Tignes, Courchevel, Val Thorens,Les Arcs and La Plagne. Snowjet, who offer flights to Chambéry from Gatwick, Stansted, Bristol and Manchester, welcome the investment.
