Free Tickets to FIS Alpine World Ski Championships

The most important event on the 2009 skiing calendar, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, will be held in Val d’Isere from 2nd-15th February. When Val won the bid to host the championships the organising committee vowed the event would be free and accessible to all. True to their word, free race invitations and transport vouchers are now available from www.valdisere2009.org. The website has received 100,000 invitation requests to date and attendance is expected to run to 200,000 over the course of the two week event, making it the biggest yet.

The 5th edition of Tignes Airwaves, the n°1 European snowsports event, will take place in Tignes in January. The invitation only event sees the world’s best riders battling for supremacy on the slopes and for a share of the massive 150 000€ prize pot. In 2009 the 5-day competition will blast-off on Monday 5th Jan with an awesome aerial display on a massive floodlit big air. Other high octane events staged during the action packed week include half-pipe, skiercross and moguls. And as well as the better established freestyle events, audiences will be able to check out some alternative snowsports including mountain bike cross and motorcross.

Meribel Hosts The Altitude Festival

The second edition of The Altitude Festival, a unique comedy, music and snowsports extravaganza, will kick off on 28th of March 2009 in Meribel. The week long event is the brainchild of comedian Marcus Brigstocke (Have I Got News For You, the Late Edition, The Now Show…). For six years Marcus and friends have been bringing comedy to the Alps with the hilarious Taking the Piste tour, a season long series of gigs in multiple ski resorts. The Altitude Festival was born last winter.

Early Bird Bargains for Freestyle Fans

Every winter in December Val Thorens hosts Ski/Boarder Week, a major freestyle and music festival. The 2008 festival, which will be held between 13th and 20th December, promises to be the best yet. The action packed week will feature top level freestyle skiing and boarding competitions, demos from the pros, free equipment tests and live music on the slopes and in the bars.
