Fresh Snow and Fat Skis
It’s another absolutely fabulous week in the French Alps with blue skies on the back of more heavy snow. The below sign post snapped on the hill on Monday says it all and was too good not to share. For non-linguists this translates as:
60 – 80 cm of fresh snow. Get your fat skis out!

Take advantage of Snowjet’s last minute ski flight deals and you could be enjoying snow conditions like these next week. All Stansted to Chambery flights departing this Saturday (28th January) have been reduced to £49 one way.

Great Reasons to Ski the French Alps this January
1) Exceptional snow conditions
As you may know, conditions in the French Alps are currently exceptional. Our favourite resorts close to Chambery airport are reporting snow depths of up to 4 metres on the upper slopes and up to 2 metres in resort. That’s more than fell in the whole of last winter! These are certainly the best January snow conditions seen in a decade, some say the best in 25 years, others the best ever. Whatever the statistics, snowsports enthusiasts heading to France in the next fortnight are likely to discover simply fantastic skiing conditions.

In case the media haven’t been as quick to report on the recent deluge of snow in the Alps as they were to shout about the lack of it a month ago, we thought you’d like to know what incredible amount of snow has fallen over the last 3 weeks. Winter began in earnest on 1st December with the first big snowfall of the season and since then it’s just kept coming. At the weekend alone up to 2 metres of new snow fell in resorts across France and Switzerland. With the snowline well below 1000m even lower altitude resorts, which can be a gamble so early in the season, are in great shape. The remarkable amount of fresh powder means that ski resorts local to Chambery and Sion airports are now well and truly set up for the season and skiers holidaying in the next couple of weeks are likely to enjoy the best snow conditions they have ever experienced in the European Alps! And you could be among them. Snowjet have flight availability in the next fortnight including flexible dates over the holiday period. Don’t miss out – book your seat today. |

Snow is Falling
At the very same time that the British media picked up on the lack of early season snow in the Alps it began snowing and hasn’t stopped. It’s been snowing in our favourite French and Swiss ski resorts since Friday and it’s still falling as I post this, transforming the mountains into slidey playgrounds.

October Snow
This weekend there were some more promising early signs of a bumper snow year in the making with snow falling down to 1300m across the French and Swiss Alps. It was a sudden but welcome change in weather for winter lovers, following several days of mid 20s temperatures during the week. As these photos, taken in Saint Gervais at 1500m, show summer is well and truly over in the Alps. Roll on the ski season.
