Ski Sunday – Save Time & Money

The vast majority of ski holidays, both packages and DIY, are sold on a 7 night basis from Saturday to Saturday. Just a small percentage of accommodation providers offer week long breaks starting on Sunday, yet there are many advantages to arriving a day later. On route, quieter airports, quieter airspace and quieter roads mean you’ll get to resort more quickly and with less hassle than the Saturday masses. On arrival, fewer people in the lift pass office and the ski hire shop mean you won’t waste valuable slope time getting kitted out. And on the Saturday of your holiday the fact that everyone else is on the move means you get the mountain virtually to yourselves.

You might think that these privileges would come at a premium. In fact, opting for Sunday travel also saves you £££. Sunday ski flights are on average 20% cheaper than those on Saturday. Choose to ski in the low season and you could pick up a real bargain. Latest offers from Snowjet include Gatwick to Chambéry on Sunday 4th January from £29 one way.

Read on for the pick of accommodation providers who offer Sunday arrivals.

Sainte Foy

Premiere Neige boast an impressive portfolio of outstanding catered and self catered properties in Sainte Foy, the best kept secret in the Alps. Sainte Foy is a quiet village with its own ski area. There are a handful of lifts which serve some lovely beginner and intermediate runs and give access to a unique backcountry paradise. The resort’s location, a snowball’s throw from Val d’Isère, Tignes, Les Arcs, La Plagne and La Rosière, also makes it ideal for day tripping.

Special offers from the Sainte Foy specialists, Premiere Neige, include free crèche places for Christmas week when booking a catered chalet before 1st November.

La Rosiere

More Alps is a small business, meticulously run by owners Dan and Sarah. The couple, who have been in La Rosiere for 7 years, manage the 4 fabulous More Alps chalets locally for that personal touch.
La Rosiere is lift-linked to Italian neighbour, La Thuile. The two resorts make up the ski area known as L’Espace Saint Bernardo which boasts 150km of pistes. Highly recommended for intermediates.

Special offers
from More Alps include a day trip to off-piste paradise, Sainte Foy, for just £10 per person.

La Plagne

Mountain Heaven offer quality piste-side catered chalets and self catered appartments at reasonable prices in snow-sure Plagne 1800 and picturesque Plagne Montalbert.
La Plagne is part of the massive Paradiski. Paradiski is an area almost as extensive as The 3 Valleys and has a snow record that rivals the Espace Killy, but it’s far better value for money than either. And it’s the ideal place to take the family.

Special offers from Mountain heaven include free lift passes for La Plagne when booking catered accommodation for the week beginning 14th December.

Tignes

Snowstar is an independent tour operator based in super-resort Tignes. Less pricey and more down to earth than neighbouring Val d’Isere, Tignes is the perfect spot to make the most of extensive and well-connected intermediate’s playground that is the Espace Killy.
Snowstar have two quality catered chalets in Tignes. The chalet staff are hand-picked by the owner, who is himself on hand in resort, to ensure that you get the best possible service.

Snowstar have availability at New Year and half-term at affordable prices.
