Sion Air Show 2011

This weekend the MD of Snowjet – David Lacy – and I were invited by our friends at Sion airport to the Breitling Sion Air Show. We went on Sunday the last of the 3 days and the moment that winter arrived in the Alps. The impressive aerial displays were well worth us being wind and rain battered for most of the time and as an added bonus, breaks in the cloud revealed the Valais’ peaks were getting their first dusting of snow of winter 2011/12.

In a recent shortlist of the world’s most stunning airport approaches, Switzerland’s Sion airport took the number one spot for its dramatic approach over the Rhône valley and the surrounding Alps. The list, compiled by Private Fly’s Adam Twidell, named the world’s top ten most awe-inspiring approaches and reminded travellers that: “… a journey by air can be a life-enhancing experience in itself.”

Plus, Sion’s low passenger volumes mean you won’t have a long wait at baggage reclaim or check-in. So you really can travel and ski on the same day. Leave Stansted at 9 a.m. Friday morning and be on the hill the same afternoon. Depart Sion on Sunday at 5 p.m. and get the best part of a day’s skiing before heading home. |
