Ski Sunday Top Gear in Les Arcs

Due to Euro 2008 dominating my viewing time over the last month (and not having Sky+ installed at home), I have been watching Top Gear re-runs on a Friday evening. So, i’m a little behind on news from the automobile world.

The highlight of episode two’s show was undoubtably Richard Hammond’s feature set in Les Arcs.

Les Arcs

In the latest man versus machine challenge, Top Gear pitted Richard against two top Speed Flyers, Frenchmen François Bon and Antoine Montant (the Columbia world speed flyer champion 2007) in a race from Arc 1950 to the village of Villaroger.

Driving the world’s most powerful family estate car, the new Audi RS6 Avant - with it’s 572bhp, V10 engine under the bonnet, and capable of a top speed of 175mph, Hammond had to negotiate 22 miles of twisting, icy roads to reach the finish line, while the skiers took a more direct route - straight down the side of a mountain. Despite the Audi’s awesome performance, the two Frenchmen won.

If like me, you spent your last month watching Spain’s dominance of European football - and even more recently, the tennis too, you can check out the YouTube clip below. I pick it up from where the real action begins…
