Tignes gets Buried under 1m of Snow!

Following reports of the Grand Montets opening ahead of schedule due to a early heavy snow fall in Chamonix, the early season snow just keeps coming. Tignes and Val d’Isere were the recent benefactors of a 1 metre dump of snow! Check out these shots of the snow mayhem on Monday.

The superb conditions have buoyed the ski industry in these challenging economic times. Tony, owner of the excellent Alpaka hotel and bar in Tignes (pictured above) told me he has had hundreds of hotel enquiries in the last week. And right across the French Alps ski resorts are reporting 70-90% occupancy for the holiday period. As ever, January is quiet and there are some bargain basement deals to be had.
